Creative people often employ dramatic changes in order to emphasize completely different states of something. Horror and sci-fi movies are densely populated with characters, whose appearances transform magically before the eyes of viewers. Yeah, such eerie mutations might curdle one’s blood. Here, some cinematographic examples of this technique.

Ruslan and LudmilaРуслан и Людмила», directed by Alexander Ptushko, produced by Mosfilm Studios, 1972), lavishly shot Soviet fantasy movie based on Alexander Pushkin’s poem of the same title, contains a scene where Naina, a witch, transforms from a young beauty into an old hag. This mutation horrifies Finn, her former lover. The Shining (directed by Stanley Kubrick, produced by Warner Bros, 1980), a masterpiece of horror genre, has famous scene where a day-dreaming protagonist hugs and kisses a dead woman, who seems to him as a living beauty. Twilight Zone: The Movie (directed by Joe Dante, John Landis, George Miller and Steven Spielberg, produced by Warner Bros, 1983), remarkable horror film, shows two friends in a car, driving along the night road. The driver’s companion turns out to be a monster under human disguise.
