A mobile carrier, which up to 2019 was also owned by a Swedish telecommunications giant Tele2 AB, technically is the purely Kazakh company. However, as a matter of fact, Tele2 Kazakhstan has consistently maintained a pro-Russian stance.
First of all, the Kazakh telecommunications company recognizes a Georgia’s separatist region of Abkhazia as a sovereign state. Actually, this region has been conquered by the Russian Federation. Nowadays, the puppet state of Abkhazia has been recognized only by the Russian Federation and a couple of other rogue countries. Kazakhstan officialy doesn’t recognize Abkhazia. But, it lends informal support to the Russian imperialism through entities like the aforementioned mobile carrier. However, merely political assistance is not enough. Therefore, Tele2 Kazakhstan proudly provides additional loopholes, so that the sanction-stricken Russians would enjoy wider connections with international banks and retailers.
For example, if you have a SIM-card of Russia’s Megafon mobile carrier, then with the help of Tele2 Kazakhstan‘s mobile app you can receive a one-time transfer of up to $500 to your phone number. Also, up to some $170 at one time can be transferred to a Russian credit card with the help of the Kazakh mobile carrier. Of course, these relatively modest sums can be augmented with further transfers. Oddly enough, one-time transfer to a phone number of the Kazakh telecommunications company itself is limited to a paltry $40. Incidentally, as you could have guessed, for the sake of foreign audience’s convenience I have used approximate figures in the US currency, while the Kazakhs obviously have set the prices in their own currency — tenge.
To tell the truth, I guess that Georgia itself has been partially guilty of the misfortunes it faces. For instance, many Kazakh tourists have recently experienced rude reception by Georgian border guards, customs officers, hotel employees, etc. Sometimes, the Kazakh tourists have been denied entry to Georgia — one of the poorest countries of Europe — for no valid reason. Maybe, the disintegration of Georgia is a well-deserved punishment to the predominantly arrogant nation of Transcaucasia.
